Telugu New Year – UGADI

Ugadi-is the New year for natives of Andhra Pradesh, India. The word  Ugadi means “beginning of new year”. People speaking Telugu celebrate this festival with great joy all over the world.  Colorful rangolis in front of the houses, preparing and consuming the traditional recipe Ugadi Chutney, sharing it with relatives and friends and listening to the astrological predictions are the main specialties of this festival.

Here’s how we’ve celebrated this festival at our home…

Ugadi festival has prominent importance for neem and mango tree. This is the neem tree in front of our house which our grandmother planted while we started constructing this house. She’s no more, but we see her daily in this tree.
