Get relief from common cold with these handy tips

Though common cold is very common in occurrence, it troubles us a lot with its side effects and lot of uneasiness. It disturbs our daily schedules and affects the quality of work. There is a saying about cold- if you use medicines, it goes down in seven days and if you don’t, it will subside in a week!! That’s the power of this common problem. Instead of always piling on tablets and medicines, I usually prefer to use simple home tips to get relief from this problem. I want to share with you those easy and handy ideas.

  • Instead of drinking normal water when thirsty, opt for boiled and cooled water. It increases your immunity and helps your body to fight cold faster.
  • Add basil or  ginger to the boiled water to relieve throat irritations. Drinking this eases your breath.
  • Drink mildly hot milk adding half a spoon of turmeric twice in a day.
  • Have herbal teas twice or thrice , preferably black, green and white. Try to add ginger, lemon and honey to them to help heal faster.
  • Replace a meal and consume soups made from carrot, tomato, pepper, garlic, basil, cabbage and broccoli. As per traditional Indian healing, keeping stomach light during any disease helps body to concentrate on fighting that infection.
  • Apply eucalyptus oil on chest and throat to breathe easy.
  • Don’t blow the nose forcibly. It irritates the nasal walls.
  • Drink more liquids to ease nasal secretions. Get steam twice to your face by closing your head with a towel.
  • Insert a pin to a pepper ball and put it on low flame. Inhale its smoke to sneeze and relax your nasal tract. This works excellently.
  • Don’t consume highly oil foods and keep your stomach light. Include more warm water,honey, ginger, garlic and turmeric in your diet.
  • Gargle thrice a day with warm water mixed with salt to relieve from throat pain, if any.
  • Apply any vapor rubs on your eyes and forehead to get relief from headache.
  • Get plenty of undisturbed sleep to help your body to fight with its enemy.
